Healthy Heart Now, Better Brain Later?

» Is the gang going out for another buffalo wing run? If you want to stay sharp later on in life, you may want to hit the gym instead. According to the journal Neurology, people who eat well, exercise and stay on top of such hazards like high blood pressure while in their 20s tend to have bigger brains in their 40s. Northwestern University scientists analyzed data from 518 middle-aged people who had been monitored for 30 years. Those who followed a heart-healthy lifestyle had higher brain volumes later on than those who took the slacker route when they were younger. “This may mean that heart health may have an impact on brain function early in life,” said lead study author Michael Bancks, MD.
