Intense Exercise May Improve Entrepreneurs’ Job Satisfaction

Being your own boss brings its own set of unique stresses—but rigorous exercise may help you blow off steam.

A research team led by Ball State University in Indiana analyzed fitness activity information provided by 472 small-business owners in three states, rating the data based on intensity level. Participants with the highest scores reported the lowest stress levels.

The team found that an increasing number of entrepreneurs are taking up weight training, CrossFit and other demanding fitness regimens. “For participants, high-intensity exercise and the hours it took is time well spent because stress levels are down,” said Ball State’s Michael Goldsby, Ph.D. “They are ready to get to work, which brings them a great deal of satisfaction.”

Results were published in the Journal of Leadership and Management.
